Christoph Peters was born in Kalkar on the Lower Rhine in 1966. He studied painting at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Karlsruhe, and was a student of H.E. Kalinowski, G. Neusel and master scholar of Meuser. After that he spent five years working as a passenger controller at Frankfurt/Main airport. Since 2000 he lives in Berlin.

 

His two most recent novels were „Herr Yamashiro bevorzugt Kartoffeln“ and „Der Arm des Kraken“. In 2016 he published also a book about the different tea cultures of the world, „Diese wunderbare Bitterkeit – Leben mit Tee“. His work has received many awards, including the „Aspekte-Literaturpreis“ in 1999 for the best debut of the year, „The annual best foreign novels of the 21st Century Award“ 2004 in China and the „Friedrich-Hölderlin-Preis“ 2016.

 

 

 

Christoph Peters est né en 1966 à Kalkar, en Rhénanie. Il suit, dans un premier temps, des études d'arts plastiques à Karlsruhe, avant de se consacrer à l'écriture. Après avoir passé de nombreuses années au Caire, il s’est installé à Berlin, où il vit toujours.
Auteur célébré et très primé en Allemagne – il a notamment reçu les prestigieux prix Jeunes auteurs Martha Saalfeld en 1998 ainsi que Rheingau Literatur en 2009 –, il a écrit plusieurs recueils de nouvelles et des romans, notamment Hannah endormie, traduit en 2001 aux éditions Métailié. Chez Sabine Wespieser éditeur, a paru, en 2007, Une chambre au paradis – itinéraire d’un jeune allemand ordinaire devenu terroriste – qui a bénéficié, comme en Allemagne, d’un accueil favorable : il a obtenu le prix des Lecteurs de littératures européennes de Cognac 2008.
